Case Study - Summer St, Ponsonby

This property is an Andrew Patterson designed property that following its original construction won most of the major Architectural awards in the country and has since been listed as one of the 50 best Residential buildings in New Zealand. In 2005 the Auckland Museum commissioned an architectural model of the building as part of a record of contemporary building in Auckland.

In 2009 the property underwent a major refurbishment which included the addition of a large bay window to the front of the main building, incorporating a vertical galvanised louvre system. This created a larger floor plan while bringing a lot more light into the building that can be controlled with the louvers and enhancing the overall visual effect of the building.

Graham was employed as the project manager, overseeing the entire project, liaising between the Client, Architects and Subcontractors while overseeing the construction and renovation of the project from demolition through to completion.

With so many aspects of the property requiring attention, managing the different trades and the flow of the job became crucial to meeting all expectations.

This was an extremely challenging project with the main works involving a considerable amount of steel construction cantilevered out from the existing building, tied into the existing concrete structure and framed up and waterproofed to carry the louvers and then clad in galvanized sheeting.

The entire project required extreme attention to detail to ensure that the architect’s vision was achieved and the clients requirements were realised.

The newly renovated property was featured recently in Home magazine (June/July edition). The property is featured on Pattersons architects website (click to view some great photos).
